At Winter’s End is a narrative dice-rolling RPG. I composed and produced the game’s soundtrack with a focus on cozy intimacy and “writing small.” I designed many of the game’s sound effects with the same ethos. On the game design end, I worked on the dice mechanics of At Winter’s End, considering both thematic and practical implications of design decisions. Near the end of the production cycle, I copy-edited the game’s script and playtested it for balance and bugs.
Fairwick
A project likely to never be finished, Fairwick School of Witchery was a side-scrolling adventure game about wizardry, potions, and school drama. The soundtrack, written over the course of years, resulted in about an album’s worth of material. It’s some of my favorite work to date and stylistically all over the place, from a royalty free visual novel music parody to a militaristic march to smooth jazz. I also worked on various facets of the game’s design, from enemies to areas to potions to the UI.
Entrenched
As part of the UGD Winter 2024 Game Jam, I joined Team 15 Kids In 10 Trench Coats to create Entrenched in 72 hours during a polar vortex. It’s a game about playing as two 6-year-olds in a trench coat on top of a 12 year old, all in a second trench coat, making their way to a movie theater as one 24 year old man. I wrote and finished the game’s soundtrack in about 7 hours, where each instrument represented a different kid in the stack. I also designed the game’s sound effects.
In Deep Water
An oceanic concept album, as well as my first. It’s detached from any game project, though deeply indebted to the aesthetic of games like The Legend of Zelda series and various relaxing indie titles, with nods to other series all throughout. I worked to turn each song into a soundscape, building layers of sound effects underneath and around the songs. This gives them a grounded sense of place, as well as to build visual imagery leading the story from one song to the next.
Hero Mode
Paper Mario TTYD: Hero Mode is an in-development mod that completely revamps the original game’s narrative, mechanics and aesthetic, adding tons of content while upping the difficulty. I’ve written many original pieces and remixes of songs from across the Mario series for the project.
